Kadek Nya is 11years old. She lives in Renditin Village (in the mountains East of Lovina) with her Mother and older sister. Born as a healthy baby she contracted Polio when just a few months old. (Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious viral disease, which mainly affects young children. The virus is transmitted mainly through contaminated water or food and multiplies in the intestine, from where it invades the nervous system causing paralysis) Polio has left Kadek Nya paralysed from the waist. She is able to attend school in Bontihing because her Mother ‘piggy backs’ her through the forest to the road from where she is taken to school on the back of a Motorcycle.
She is a very bright intelligent young lady. Her dream is to become a Schoolteacher.
Global Village Foundation have been assisting Kadek Nya and her family since November 2015. In February 2016 The Global Village Foundation presented to Kadek Nya a new Wheelchair for her needs to use in her home.
When Global Village first met Kadek Nya and her family the family had only a very primitive bathroom, which had no walls, no privacy, and only a ’Squat’ style toilet, completely impractical for Nya to be able to use independently. Global Village Foundation and Bali Hearts Lovina have now built Nya and her family a completely new bathroom, complete with shower, and ‘Western style’ seated toilet.
This project completed April 2016.
